Thom Wilson

Started in 1986 in the building it still occupies. This was originally a garden centre, converted by Norman McKinnon into a mixed veterinary practice and then in 1986, he moved out. He still carried on the large animal side of the business, while Thom & Sue Wilson took over the small animal and horse work in 1986.

Various adaptations were made to the inside of the building to accomodate the changing ways of Alphavet. In 1998 the whole of the inside was gutted and re-built to make best use of the small space available and to allow for the growing team to all perform efficiently.

Soon after this major refurbishment took place, the decission was taken to become a purely small animal practice. This meant we were no longer able to treat horses. The decision enabled the practice to become more efficient in treating the smaller species and dircet thoughts towards providing the most up to date equipment and expertise we could for these clients. Our equipment includes X-ray imager, ultrasonic scanner, rigid endoscope, ultrasonic dental scaler and anaesthetic equipment as used today in the NHS.

As a veterinary Nurse Training Practice we have trained several veterinary nurses over the years, some moving on to other practices or to start a family, but often staying with us for some time as have our 2 present nurses.

Several vets have worked with Alphavet and many students from the U.K. and abroad. Always the aim has been a happy, professional service for our clients from a united, happy team.
